Come
This past weekend, we continued a long-time tradition at our church–we sponsored a Valentine Supper for our church family and community. On Saturday morning, tables were set in readiness for friends and family to gather for a celebration of love. All was in readiness for them to come.
I won’t deny the effort that goes into preparing a steak and chicken dinner, with baked potato, elaborate salad bar, and a decadent dessert for eighty people.
It’s a lot of work, but we enjoy the opportunity to share the gifts of hospitality and love with others. We invite them to come.
Come!
How does our Father invite us to Come?
God invites all…
“Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come buy wine and milk without money and without cost.” (Isaiah 55:1)
Our Father sent a Savior for us…
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30).
God gives us exactly what we need to answer His call to Come…
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. (2 Peter 1:3-4)
Our Lord’s invitation is always open. We don’t have to wait for Him to say “Come!” He is there, waiting for us.
In this month of February, where we celebrate love–let’s keep it going! Can you reach out in love to your family, friends, and neighbors this week? How can you help a stranger? Please share suggestions for us in the comments. Your ideas will inspire all of us.

Katherine-the verses you have selected are among my favorites-Isaiah reminds us God offers nourishment and joy, Matthew’s tells us rest is ours for the asking, and 2 Peter reminds us His storehouse is never depleted for us. All of these encompass love that extends beyond a calendar holiday.

Yes, it is labor…He didn’t promise serving Him would be easy and this service to our community is a challenge. But when we see the smiles on the faces of our guests and watch them enjoy their evening, it seems as if God is smiling with us. Thank you, Debbie.
