Another year
This past week I celebrated my birthday. For some folks entering the “golden” years (getting older), it’s just another year–another reminder that time is flying by and there’s so much more they’d like to do. For others, perhaps, it’s another year of blessings, working, celebrating family and friends, and a time to reflect on our service to our Lord.
My daughter and granddaughter each have birthdays near mine. For my busy daughter, this birthday is a hectic time, planning a birthday celebration for her daughter whose birthday is one day after hers. For my granddaughter, a birthday is a day of excitement and joy–and lots of presents.
Do you remember when you wished you were older? Old enough to have sleepovers, play a sport, go on a date, or get you driver’s license? Perhaps you couldn’t wait to graduate from high school, get a job, or get married.
Time goes faster
One thing I’ve noticed about getting older–time goes faster. I’m sure there’s a formula somewhere that shows how–with each passing year–time speeds up. Did you know?
But for my daughter and granddaughter, time may seem to move at a different pace as they have different hopes and goals. One thing we believers know for certain. God has a plan for our time. Our task is to seek Him.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:11-13)
Another year
As God gifts me with another year I look forward to:
- Continuing to know Him better.
- His many blessings.
- The gifts of joy and laughter.
- Smiles and excitement from my grandchildren.
- Sharing joy, praise, and worship with my church family.
- Supporting my author community as they write to God’s glory.
- Continuing to seek my Lord’s purpose in service to Him.
How about you?
Even though it may not be your birthday, I invite you to think about the year ahead of you . . .
What are your hopes and dreams? What are you most looking forward to?
If you’re like me, and have a few years behind you, here’s an article with some great quotes about getting older.
I pray you enjoy a wonderful year, Katherine.
Thank you, Diana. I hope you do as well.
Have a blessed week dear friend! I’m thankful God has placed you in my life. 🙂
Happy Birthday, Katherine. May this year bring you many blessings!
Thank you, Barbara! May God bless you and your service to Him.
How kind you are, Melissa! I’m thankful for our friendship. It’s a blessing.
Happy birthday. In the next year I look forward to knowing God better through His Word.
I hope I can study, pray, worship, and gain in knowledge and faith, too, Priscilla. Wishing you blessings on your journey with Him.
Happy Birthday, Katherine!! Yes, the come quicker these days!
Thank you for the birthday wishes Debbie. I pray God blesses our family time and our service to Him, even as the time to live, love, and serve seems to speed up.
This is the day the Lord has made. Rejoice and be glad in it! Happy birthday to one who has grown wiser with each year the Lord has given you.
Thank you, Mary! I pray our loving Father continues to grant us wisdom and bless us in service to Him.
Birthdays are a great time for reflection and for counting God’s many blessings. They do come quicker than ever these days.
Yes, Candyce, they come more quickly, it seems. But aren’t we so blessed by each day we have between birthdays. Hope you have a great week!
It’s amazing how much faster life goes as we get older. No matter our age, God still has plenty of God things for us to look forward to in life. I look forward to more time with family and friends, time in God’s presence and enjoy all the beauty of God’s creation. Thank you Katherine
You say it so well, Yvonne, when you describe all we have to look forward to with the blessings we receive each day. Thank you for sharing. Blessings!
I like number fifteen from the quotes you linked about getting older: “Old age is always 15 years older than I am.” —Oliver Wendell Holmes. When I was around twelve, a neighbor was expecting her second child. I thought she was much too old to be giving birth. She was around twenty-seven. Happy belated birthday, Katherine!
I remember when I thought 30 was old. And then I gave birth at 37! It kept me feeling younger, I think. Our mind set has so much impact on how old we feel. Age is just a number, not a measurement of how active or productive we are. Love the quote by Mr. Holmes. Thank you for sharing, LuAnn.
Seems like I just wished you a happy birthday a couple of months ago? Weren’t we just at BRMCWC? How can over a year have gone by so quickly? In any case, happy birthday dear sister-in-Christ. I hope your day was as filled with blessings as you’ve made mine. As for my “hopes and dreams”? I think to endure to the end and see several folks who I help plant a seed of faith into through my life. God’s blessings, ma’am.
Time seems to fly by now (as I grow older). It’s hard to believe that it’s been more than a year since we dressed up for genre night at BRMCWC. What fun! I’ve had a great birthday month. Like you, I’m looking forward to seeing loved ones in heaven, but I think God has more work for both of us before He sends us to our final home. Blessings!
Happy Birthday! Mine was this past Sunday and like you, I want my years to reflect my walk with Jesus and encourage others to follow him too. I hope your writings reache many with the love of Jesus.
Happy Birthday to you, Patty! June is a great month for birthdays. Thank you for sharing your hopes and dreams–to share with others the love of Jesus–and to follow His example of love, kindness, and mercy in your walk with others. Our Lord is such a wonderful role model for us. Peace and blessings.
