He is watching
One evening last week when I came home from caring for my grandchildren, I found a bear in my spare bedroom. He looked at me. The fluffy, cuddly, baby giant stared at me. His eyes never close. He is watching.
I was a little startled that first night, but later my new bear reminded me of Someone else who watches over us each day.
Four Ways God Watches Over Us
1. God is always there
The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good. (Proverbs 15:3)
Sometimes, it’s scary to think of God watching us–every moment. But then, it’s also comforting to know He is there–every moment. Our Father sees us at our worst, and is there to help us do better. He’s also with us at our best–guiding us along our journey with Him.
Of course, we usually strive to be in the category of “good” (rather than the wicked group), but we know that we can never be as good as we ought to be. The good news is that He helps us as we continue to try.
2. God doesn’t sleep
My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip–he who watches over you will not slumber; (Psalm 121:2-3)
My bear’s eyes are always open. Watching. God doesn’t take a break either. No napping. He isn’t distracted. He is watching. Always.
God is always listening, too. He’s only a prayer away.
3. God’s watchfulness protects us
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Holy One of Israel, your Savior. (Isaiah 43:2-3a)
God isn’t just watching us–he is watching over us and protects us.
4. God’s promises are forever
The LORD will keep you from all harm–he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore. (Psalm 121:7-8)
Our loving Father is trustworthy, faithful, and watches over us. We can depend on Him to keep his promises.

His faithfulness and trustworthiness is a reminder for us to emulate Him. Thank you, Marilyn.

I was humming “His Eye is On the Sparrow” after the first two sentences. Knowing that He is always with us is what gets us through the days, both good and bad ones. Thank you ma’am.

That is a…really big bear… I’ve also thought of this because of all the cameras around. I am so grateful for loving watchful eyes of Jesus. Thanks Katherine for the reminder!
Yes, he is a BIG bear, Sylvia, and I was quite startled the first time I saw him. “The loving watchful eyes of Jesus”–I like that phrase. Thank you for sharing.
Jesus’s eyes on us is comforting—until we’ve wandered from his direction. But when he graciously causes us to become aware that he’s watching, he also welcomes us back into an unbroken fellowship. Thanks for the great object lesson, Katherine!
I’ve stumbled, fallen, and strayed more times than I want to admit. But as you remind us, Mary, God is gracious, merciful, and forgiving. We are so blessed! Thank you for your kind encouragement.
I love your analogy to the stuffed bear. It really makes the message real and relatable. I will think of it when I see the grandkids bears laying around. Thanks Katherine.

I think I would have been a little worried about a giant bear showing up in my house, but he does look cute, and he definitely gave you a good lesson for us! I love Psalm 121 and how often it speaks to me about God’s constant and loving watch over me!
He is a cute and friendly bear and I enjoy the thought of him watching over me. We are blessed to know we have a loving Father watching over us. Wishing you a week filled with joy and blessings, Kathy.
It’s so comforting that we don’t have to face this world alone. We have a Heavenly Father we can call on day or night. So many times we forget to lift our eyes up to Him who is our help. Thank you for this reminder, Katherine.
Krystal, I confess that what you describe has happened to me. In a crisis, I have forgotten to immediately pray and ask for God’s guidance. Thankfully, I have grown in faith and this doesn’t happen as often as it used to. I’m grateful for God’s grace and His gift of second chances (or third, fourth, etc.) Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
